Being fascinated by historical jewellery, over the course of time I became particularly interested in the style known as «Sentimental Jewellery«, a style that was quite fashionable in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Jewellery of this kind was strongly personalised with engravings, hidden messages, portraits and charms, superbly accentuating the bond between 2 people – the person whose gift it was, and the person who was to wear the jewellery. Being convinced of the importance of love and friendship in life, I concentrate on these very personal messages that I express in my work. Other sources of inspiration are literature, classical music, and, of course, all those people whom I had the pleasure to meet, and who have marked my journey. My favourite working materials are silver, gold, semi-precious stones, enamel and pearls. My professional journey:
● September 2006: First participation in the “Salon Première Classe”, Jardin des Tuileries, Paris. Start of the distribution of my creations abroad and throughout Belgium. ● 2002: Production of a jewellery collection for the fashion designer Dirk Van Saene. ● 2001: Selected by the government to produce a jewellery collection designed by Walter Van Beirendonck, and offered to ministerial members of the European Community. ● From 1996 to 1997: Professor of Jewellery at the “Academie des Beaux Arts” in Antwerp ● 1996: Opening of my own boutique in Antwerp. ● Between 1980 and 1996, exhibitions of my creations in art galleries throughout Belgium and around the world, including Munich (D), Barcelona (E), Washington DC and Atlanta (USA). ● 1983: Laureate at the “Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts” in Antwerp ● 1980: Graduated in Jewellery at the “Académie des Beaux Arts” in Antwerp ● 1957: Born in Antwerp, Belgium | |
